Putting the Six Sigma into Design For Six Sigma (DFSS)

Developed in the 1990s and still an emerging process, DFSS is a compilation of process best practices that can be applied in product design, manufacturing or services. In addition, Pugh's method will not calculate decision risk or advise users what to do next in the process. Regardless of whether DFSS is utilized to develop a product, service or process, the first steps focus on establishing the appropriate criteria and selecting the best concept to develop. A key objective of DFSS is the development and optimization of new solutions while dealing effectively with the challenges of managing uncertainty throughout the decision-making processes inherent in product design and development.
